Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy applies to schools conducted by Catholic Education Services – Diocese of Cairns (CES) and sets out how CES and each school manages personal information provided to or collected by it.

CES is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act.

CES may, from time to time, review and update this Privacy Policy to take account of new laws and technology, changes to schools’ operations and practices and to make sure it remains appropriate to the changing school environment.

Update to our Privacy Policy, Policy Statement and Collection Notice

Catholic Education in Cairns is committed to assisting schools to meet their obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles.

As part of this commitment we receive ongoing advice from the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) on compliance with the legislation. In May 2018 the NCEC updated its Privacy Manual and suggested a change to policies, policy statements and collection notices. This change is relatively minor but important.

In summary the change provides that the school may disclose personal and sensitive information for educational, administrative and support purposes, to include:

• Providers of specialist advisory services and assistance to the school, including in the area of Human Resources, child protection and students with additional needs.

These changes were approved by the Diocesan Board of Governance Education on 11 June 2018 and took effect from that date. The updated Privacy Policy and the Policy Statement and Collection Notice are available below.
