About the Role
In this role, the School Officer (Science Laboratory Assistant) will work alongside teaching staff to support the delivery of Science. The primary focus of the role is the preparation, organisation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials, ensuring practical activities are well prepared and operate safely and effectively. The role will also provide learning and practical support to students during classroom and laboratory activities.
A Certificate III in Education Support or higher is desirable, along with experience working in a laboratory or similar environment. The successful applicant will have strong organisational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to engage positively with students in both classroom and practical learning environments.
In this role, the chosen candidate will be required to:
- Provide practical assistance and guidance to students during practical lessons including students with diverse special needs under the direction of a teacher.
- Assist with evaluating and assessing the learning needs of students under the direction of a teacher.
- Under guidance, assist in science program activities, including experiment design and demonstration.
- Prepare, set up, and dismantle equipment for experiments, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
- Handle stock solutions, chemicals, and hazardous materials following established procedures.
- Contribute to stock take, ordering of science resources, and maintenance of equipment database.
- Collaborate with teachers to manage equipment return and storage.
- Enforce safety protocols and participate in housekeeping for efficient laboratory operations.
In addition to:
- Attend team meetings as required and support collegial learning.
- Undertake ongoing professional development to learn and apply new knowledge and skills.
- Playground supervision.
- Other appropriate tasks as directed/requested by the principal
- Undertake ongoing professional development to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that improve the educational outcomes of students.
- Hold a Working with Children Blue Card
- Be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education
