Rural & Remote Locations

Rural and remote schools deliver opportunities and incentives not found anywhere else. The experience of living in small, rural communities such as those in the southern and western Tablelands regions of our Diocese, or remote locations such as Weipa, Cooktown and Waibeni (Thursday Island) delivers small-community engagement and support, as well as opportunities for fast-tracked career advancement and financial incentives.

Financial and other incentives are provided to teachers based in remote and rural areas. Depending on location, these incentives may include:

  • Relocation assistance
  • Accommodation provided (in some locations, for some positions)
  • Financial support for individuals and families through fortnightly and bi-annual payments (additional to salary)
  • Travel and emergent leave days
  • Accelerated long service leave
  • Annual airfare allowances
  • Tailored induction
  • Greater opportunity for career progression
  • Option for enhanced superannuation

Under our Remote Area Incentive Scheme, teachers and leaders are encouraged to experience a richness of experience while providing rural and remote communities with the quality education they rightly expect and deserve.
