Employment Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term 5 Year Leadership Position (this position holds a substantive full-time permanent teaching position within the Cairns Diocese)
Salary Range: Paid in accordance with the Senior Leadership Salary Scale: AP1 $149,763 - AP3 $157,119 gross per annum FTE

The College is situated in the central business district of Cairns, one block from the Cairns Esplanade.  St Monica's is the oldest school in the region, with rich heritage and Mercy traditions.  As a Catholic Secondary Day and Boarding College for young women, St Monica's is a faith community where belief in the dignity of the human person underlies our educational philosophy, structures and processes.  During the last few years, the College has undertaken a significant building project to complement its two heritage buildings.  Reinforcing our strong Mercy tradition all of the buildings are named after Sisters of Mercy.  We are the only all-female school in the Cairns region with an enrolment of over 700 students. Year levels 7 to 12 are offered, with both day and boarding options.

About the Role

St Monica's College, Cairns is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Principal - Curriculum

As part of the Leadership Team of the College, the Assistant Principal - Curriculum is responsible for curriculum development and implementation for the College. The Assistant Principal - Curriculum works collaboratively with the Leadership Team and staff to promote the college as a centre of quality learning and teaching. They encourage a climate of excellence where students are engaged and empowered to develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities and thus achieve their potential.

The Assistant Principal - Curriculum supports the Principal by bringing to the College a wide range of technological skills and latest educational research, knowledge and capacities. The Assistant Principal - Curriculum supports the Curriculum Middle Leadership Team with innovative ways to plan and deliver curriculum ensuring that it meets Australian Curriculum and QCAA guidelines.

The following six domains outline the role of the Assistant Principal - Curriculum as it is envisaged in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cairns. Following each domain is the Statement of Performance Competency followed by Performance Indicators.

  1. FAITH LEADERSHIP 
    • To share in the essential Mission of the Church as a leader within the school Faith community
  2. EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP 
    • To support leading, learning and teaching as the Assistant Principal – Curriculum
  3. STAFF LEADERSHIP
    • To develop self and others as the Assistant Principal – Curriculum
  4. ORGANISATIONAL LEADERSHIP
    • To support the Principal in the management of the school as the Assistant Principal – Curriculum
  5. COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
    • To engage and work with the community as the Assistant Principal - Curriculum
  6. STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
    • To support the Principal in improvement, innovation and change as the Assistant Principal - Curriculum


Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements

  • Participation in and commitment to the sacramental life of the Church.  
  • Understanding and commitment to education in the Catholic tradition.
  • Professional qualifications in Education and Religion as per Queensland Catholic Education Commission Position Statement for Senior Leadership Positions in Catholic Schools in Queensland.
  • Leadership experience:
    • Demonstrated ability in religious and education leadership
    • Demonstrated administrative ability
    • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships
  • Written and verbal communication skills of a high order
  • Skills for building community including facilitation, delegation and consultation
  • Professional qualifications in Education, Bachelor of Education
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom experience
  • A post graduate qualification in Education
  • Involvement in professional associations
  • Capacity for leadership within a school
  • Registered or eligible to register with Queensland College of Teachers
  • Current drivers licence
  • A strong demonstrated commitment to the objectives, vision and ethos of Catholic Education
