About the Role

Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns is seeking a dedicated and capable individual to join our Building and Planning Team. This role is responsible for the development and management of programs, processes and systems in the areas of asset management with specific reference to maintenance planning for schools.
 
This position is based in Cairns and includes travel for periodic property inspections. Most travel is within a two-hour drive from Cairns, with occasional flights and overnight stays required for Schools in Cooktown, Weipa, and Thursday Island (typically once per year or as needed).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Consult with school Principals and staff in relation to the development, implementation, review and update of asset management plans
  • Liaise with schools regarding maintenance costs, contractor availability and follow up on unresolved issues.
  • When necessary, or if requested by Principals or Executive Manager Building & Planning, project manage maintenance projects for schools.
  • Facilitate the administration of the asset management system for use for school facilities and staff housing. Develop and implement the system and train users to ensure its effective use and that benefits are derived from it.
  • Inspection of all primary school buildings annually and provide a maintenance schedule with approximate costs to inform their annual budgeting.
  • Provide advice to primary and secondary schools on building maintenance issues.
  • Manage the annual solar maintenance inspection program and provide regular monitoring of solar performance via portals.
  • Manage multi-site service contracts including requirements and tendering for renewals.
  • Liaise with the Work, Health and Safety Manager at Catholic Education Services and Maintenance Officers at schools in relation to asset management and maintenance matters.
  • Provide support to the Executive Manager – Building & Planning as needed with capital project management and other tasks as required.
  • Assist the Staff Housing Officer role from time to time as required.

Work Requirements

  • Qualifications in building, construction or other related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in building and facility management including building maintenance, services and upgrades
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing asset management plans and maintenance schedules
  • Demonstrated understanding of Work, Health and Safety to enable safe work practices
  • Unless an exemption applies all staff are required to hold a current Working With Children Blue Card or be eligible to apply
  • Current drivers licence
  • A strong demonstrated commitment to the objectives, vision, and ethos of Catholic Education
  • Promote child safety at all times
  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel
