St Monica's College is seeking applications for a School Officer - Indigenous Liaison Officer to join their college community. Applicants should identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (exemption under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act, Section 25 (Genuine Occupational Requirement))

Contract Dates: 11 May 2026 - 22 January 2026

Employment Type: Term-Time, Fixed-Term Position | 20 hours per week (school terms only)

Salary Range: SOF Level 4:  $36.98 to $38.14 gross per hour

The College is situated in the central business district of Cairns, one block from the Cairns Esplanade.  St Monica's is the oldest school in the region, with rich heritage and Mercy traditions.  As a Catholic Secondary Day and Boarding College for young women, St Monica's is a faith community where belief in the dignity of the human person underlies our educational philosophy, structures and processes.  During the last few years, the College has undertaken a significant building project to complement its two heritage buildings.  Reinforcing our strong Mercy tradition all of the buildings are named after Sisters of Mercy.  We are the only all-female school in the Cairns region with an enrolment of over 690 students.  Year levels 7 to 12 are offered, with both day and boarding options.

 

About the Role

The role and responsibilities of the Indigenous Liaison Officer is primarily one of communication and liaison between diocesan schools, Catholic Education Services and local First Nations people, communities and agencies to increase student engagement and outcomes for First Nations students.  

Indigenous Liaison Officers play a key role in providing knowledge and understanding of First Nations histories, languages and cultures within schools to promote respect and harmony, The role is conducted in collaboration with school staff and the school Principal.

Work Requirements

  • Hold a Working with Children Blue Card
  • Be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education
