This position holds a permanent Teaching position within the College.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience - Graduate $84,077 - Proficient 4 $104,841 FTE Gross per annum, plus applicable Middle Leader Tier 2C allowance $16,274 p.a.  
OR 
Proficient 5 and above: $1140,998 FTE Gross per annum

Newman Catholic College

Newman Catholic College, co-located on James Cook University site, Smithfield, is Cairns Catholic Education’s newest college, joining a system of 29 other catholic schools and colleges. Opened in 2022 and growing a year level each year until Year 12 is reached in 2027, its location on and interaction with the University presents endless opportunities to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Newman Catholic College works collaboratively with James Cook University so that learning and teaching is enhanced at all year levels.

 

About the Role

The role of the Middle Leader of Pedagogy is to:

  • Maintain and enhance the Catholic Identity of Newman Catholic College and be committed to the Newman Catholic College Learning and Teaching Philosophy.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school objectives and School Annual Improvement (SAIP).
  • Build teacher capacity to provide relevant and authentic student learning.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to create and maintain inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environments.
  • Assist the Deputy Principal – Academic Studies and curriculum team with the implementation of the schools Literacy and Numeracy development programs.
  • Coach and model effective teaching using blended learning models, integrated learning environments and digital technologies including the chosen Learning Management System of the school.
  • Collaboratively lead, mentor and coach teachers to design flexible curriculum and contemporary pedagogies to improve student engagement and learning outcomes across a diverse range of students from Years 7 – 12 across all learning areas.
  • Work collaboratively with other middle leaders and college staff to promote a culture of teaching excellence and supports student achievement.
  • Work with colleagues to plan, implement, review and modify learning and tracking programs to create productive learning environments that engage all students through the modelling of effective classroom practice.
  • Work with colleagues (Middle Leader Data and Tracking) to use data from internal and external student assessments for evaluating the effectiveness of learning and teaching, identifying interventions, and modifying teaching practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of teaching strategies intended to improve student achievement, especially in literacy and numeracy; with the Leader of Data and Tracking, overseeing the collection, analyse and formulate a response to valid data.
  • With the Deputy Principal – Academic Studies, develops documentation and leads Project Learning at the College; supporting staff to implement their projects and coaching them using a continuous improvement model.
  • With the Deputy Principal – Academic Studies, lead the implementation of Writer’s Tool Box.

The Leader of Pedagogy is accountable to and under the direction of the Deputy Principal- Academic Studies.
